Optimizing Flux Formulations for Refractory Gold Ores in the Lake Victoria Goldfields
Introduction & Geological Context
Refractory mineralizations across the Lake Victoria Goldfields frequently present challenging complex sulphide matrices, including arsenopyrite, pyrite, and tellurides. In standard fire assay fusion, inadequate flux chemistry causes incomplete slag separation, premature lead button crystallization, and precious metal entrapment.
Charge Chemistry & Slag Acid-Base Balancing
At RVA Labs, custom flux recipes are calibrated to maintain a silicate degree of 1.0 to 1.3. For high-sulphide drill core, potassium nitrate (KNO3) oxidizers and excess litharge (PbO) are introduced to maintain a molten state at 1,060°C and produce an optimum 28g to 32g lead collection button.
QA/QC Repeatability & Prill Analysis
Precision AAS finish detects gold down to 0.01 ppm. When gold grades exceed 10.0 ppm, micro-gravimetric parting ensures zero spectroscopic saturation errors, compliant with ASTM E1335 and ISO 10378 protocols.
